Frankfurt, 13.11.19

After the significant growth in September, the recovery of the Swiss passenger car market is continuing in October. Nearly 25,800 registered passenger cars represent total market growth of 13.5%. Registrations of light commercial vehicles also increased by 7.8%.

Swiss passenger car market in October 2019

Both the private market (+ 11.8 %) and the commercial market (+ 15.6 %) can look back on a strong October, leading to a plus of 13.5% for Switzerland’s Total Market.

The positive picture also continued within the commercial sub-channels: The True Fleet Market grew by 13.7% in October, however this means that fleet registrations on Swiss companies are currently still 3.6% down looking at the year-to-date figures. There was particularly strong growth in registrations from the channel of car Rental Companies, which more than doubled their registrations compared to the same month last year (+ 157.6 %). The overall positive picture was rounded off by the growth in registrations from the Dealer/Importer channel (+ 8.4 %).

True Fleet Market: Seat, Porsche and Citroen grow fastest

The positive development of the True Fleet Market also made itself felt at brand level and as a result, two thirds of the top 15 importer brands grew in the month of October. SEAT achieved the highest growth (+ 214.1 %), with the Leon, Tarraco and Ateca models, in particular, finding their way into Swiss fleets. Porsche’s + 158.0 % was driven by the Cayenne and Macan while at Citroën their + 85.8 % push was mostly the C1 and C5 Aircross.

Light commercial vehicles continue to grow

Despite a significant decline in the private market (- 16.1 %), registrations of light commercial vehicles up to 3.5t continued to grow in October (+ 7.8 %). The commercial market received a special boost from the more tactically interpretable sub-channels of Rental Companies (+ 164.9 %) and the Dealer/Importer Channel (+ 20.3 %), which decisively supported the positive overall market development, alongside the slightly more sedate increase from the True Fleet Market (+ 8.1 %).

Iveco achieved the highest growth of the top 10 importers in the True Fleet Market (+ 42.5 %). Second place in terms of growth went to Ford (+ 26.0 %), which delivered the highest volume of light commercial vehicles to Swiss companies in October. Citroen (+ 20.4 %) aroused the interest of Swiss fleet operators particularly with the Berlingo (+ 62.5 %) and Jumpy (+ 36.4 %) models.
